Converting Poetry to Narrative

Filed under: Uncategorized — rwardle at 5:40 pm on Wednesday, June 7, 2017

This week we have been looking at the poem Giraffes Can’t Dance. We understood what the writing process was and began to understand that it is ok for us to go back and make changes to make it better.

After writing a paragraph on Monday and Wednesday with Miss Wardle, we began writing the whole story with a partner using the app Book Creator. We were able to make changes on the ipads easily without having to draw lines through our work.

Here are the books we created:

Naima          Marwa A and Nyasha     Amira and Hanan      Erin and Rawia       Leila and Karo Abdullah and Samih          Zafreen and Chenelle          Shiloe and Caitlin          Sara and Marwa O Ilyes and Eman           Rawa and Mamadou          Nathan and Sidra          Ezekiel and Fatima

Day 3 with the drama students

Filed under: Uncategorized — rwardle at 10:05 am on Wednesday, May 17, 2017

Today we thought about the relationships between predator and prey. We went on a journey through the jungle on a desert island. We thought about how we could survive on the desert island. How would we build a shelter? How would we get across the river? Who would watch for predators whilst we slept at night?

We wrote down the story using all of the ideas we had acted out. We then created freeze frames of the story using our bodies to show the different sounds on the island and the things we needed to do to survive. After that, we looked at a food chain and decided what each animal would eat. We discussed the pictures and decided on the correct food chain.

In the afternoon, we had a go at creating rhythms with our bodies using clapping, tapping and clicking. We also used the instruments to think about the types of noises we might hear as food goes down our oesophagus into our mouth. At the end of the day, we sang an old sailor song using a call and response technique.

We can’t wait for tomorrow!

Day 1 with the drama students

Filed under: Uncategorized — rwardle at 8:54 am on Monday, May 15, 2017  Tagged , ,

Year 4 are very lucky to have 3 LIPA students teaching them this week. Today was our first day and we looked at the different parts of the digestive system. These are the activities we did today:

  1. First, we learnt about the story of Charlie the chicken breast, Brenda the broccoli, Sally Sweetcorn and Pete the potato and their journey through the body. Each group acted out a part from the story and at the end of the activity we put together a performance to tell the whole story.
  2. We then thought about the different food groups and what type of food would go in each group. The students showed us a picture of a piece of food and then we had to decide if it was a type of meat, carbohydrate, grain, fruit and veg or dairy.
  3. We then used our body to show different types of food.  In our groups we had to pretend to be a meal of a burger, chips and a milkshake.
  4. In the afternoon, we looked at the different types of bacteria in our bodies and discussed how we have some good bacteria and some bad bacteria. Then we made a good bacteria character and a bad bacteria character for us to use for tomorrow. After designing them, we brought them to life using paint and other craft materials.

Science day with Mr B

Filed under: Uncategorized — rwardle at 12:20 pm on Wednesday, March 29, 2017

Today we had a special guest in our classroom. Mr B did a workshop with us about sound. We measured the sound around school with a decibel meter as well as making our own sheet of music to play in the music machine. We learnt all about the history of sound and how it has developed through the years. It was amazing! Thank you Mr B!

Musical Experiment

Filed under: Uncategorized — rwardle at 1:55 pm on Monday, March 27, 2017

Today we did an experiment to see if there is a relationship between the amount of effort we put into playing our instrument and the volume of the sound created. We found that the more effort we put in, the louder the sound the instrument produced.
